MGMT has returned with a new song “Your Life Is A Lie” with an brilliant, brilliant accompanying video which features Flipper, Hall and Oates (kind of), a chorus of skeletons and – well I won’t ruin it for you…
The first single from the new self titled album, “Your Life Is A Lie” appears to show a return to the band’s more cynical roots, reminiscent in lyrical content at least of that most excellent single “Time To Pretend” which sent up the idea of being a rock star in a world of YouTube, iTunes playlists and so on. Musically, the band have never sounded more like mid-nineties era Flaming Lips, which is perhaps not a coincidence as they continue to use producer Dave Fridmann to great effect.
