You’ve made an unanswerable point, and I’d go further. Not only must music progress organically, it can only progress in that way. There is no such thing as music, in any genre, which is uninfluenced by other music. You can track back from Kraftwerk to Abbess Hildegard of Bingen if you care to do so, and trace relationships between any two pieces of music, and I would defy any serious musician to say that they do not depend for their style, technique, songwriting, ideas, etc on the music that they have listened to and embraced (or rejected).
That is an essential and good thing.
