Interesting piece of trivia years after the fact-
Around 1994 I was at work, someone had brought in an old stack of Nat Geo’s and I found quite by accident and to my astonishment (being a Zeppelin fan) the exact pic used for the teacher holding the child’s head…the thing about this picture and the initial album cover pic are recreated whereas the rest of the pics are pic’s lifted from Nat Geo..the caption with the original was something to the effect of “the machine was used by the teacher to check the child’s eyesight”…I tore the page out and kept it in the sleeve of my Presence album….which I sold in 1996 (and forgot the pic was in there) and have often thought about it. I was certain the issue was June or July 1952 or 54 but my memory was wrong…I’ve spent the last couple of hours online scrolling through each copy and year 52 and 54 to no avail…late 40’s -50’s ….somewhere in that date range…we’re talking thousands of pic’s…very frustrating but I’ll find it eventually.
This particular issue had a lot of line drawn maps in it….but it appears a lot of the early 50’s issues had line drawn maps.
